The doable season for this trip is from April to November sometimes water level is high or there is rapid currents, in this case the walking excursion along the river will be replaced with a trekking in the canyon. As Nomads live in different locations and moving from one place to another in search of grasslands for their animals, visiting them depends on the season and the weather changes.
This trip is an amazing opportunity for who travel between Shiraz to Isfahan on the Iran classic part and has limited time for hiking in Iran. The trail is a two day hike have chosen from one of the best Adventure Iran long trek in the Dena mountain for who would like have a special hiking in the non touristic area. The level of difficulty of this trip is between moderate to challenging and we will cross through canyons, river, villages and farms. The total length of trail during this trip is around 40 km in the foothills of the mountain between the altitude of 2000 m up to 3000 m but it's possible to customize it as a private tour and we can make it longer for tought hikers or make it shorter for who would like to have softer trek. Please inform us in advance for this case. Sometimes in mid spring and the end of summer we will meet local nomads of this region who belong to Boier Ahmadi tribes and which they lives with their ships and animals in the mountains in their temporary staying of seasonal migration. The hiking region has different landscape and in some part you will hike through different canyon and along a river in Dena National Park and protected area. This tour starts from Shiraz and ends in Isfahan, but for private groups there is a possibility to start from Isfahan and end in Shiraz.
In the afternoon at 14:00, you will leave Shiraz towards Sisakht in the “ Dena Mountain Foothills” which is 216 km away and will take around 3 hours. overnight stay at a traditional guesthouse.
After early breakfast, you will pack up to start your long trekking. One hour drive will take us to the National Park’s gate. Trekking will start from there for 2 days. You will hike through the forest and in most part of the trek we have a spectacular view of a lot of peaks over 4000 m which is on the mountain ridge. Dinner in the local house.
You will have breakfast in the early morning and continue the second day walk to another village. You will have very nice trek and quite different with yesterday as we will cross a couple of canyons and mountains with alloy orange color on our way. By late afternoon we will arrive to the village, socialize with simple and local farmers of the village.
Today we will have breakfast in the house and after breakfast you will pack from the village and drive to the bus terminal by a private car, to go to Isfahan. You will arrive in the noon
Zagros is one of the longest mountain ranges in Asia and it forms the largest chain in Iran, spreading across the whole length of the western and southwestern Iranian plateau, beginning in northwestern Iran and ending at Strait of Hormuz. Zagros range is about 932 miles (1500 km) long and more than 150 miles (240 km) wide. The mountains are separated into many sub-ranges. Geologically it is about the same age as the Alps. The forest cover is oak dominated. It is also home to rich and complex flora.
Dena is a protected area because of its vast range of plants, several endangered endemic mammals and natural resources. Oak species dominate the highlands, while wild pistachio and almond plants are common at lower elevations. Hackberry, walnut, and pear trees are scattered throughout this eco-region. A variety of animal life, such as brown bear, eagles, wolves, various wild cats including caracals, lynxes and leopards, and wild goat have long made their homes in the region. Dena is home to a vast range of plant species and several endangered and endemic mammal species. On the other hand many large rivers, including Karun, Dez, and Karkheh originate from this area flowing into the Persian Gulf. Scenic waterfalls, pools, and lakes add beauty to the mountainous landscape.
The central part of Dena (Dena National Park) was registered by UNESCO on their list of Biosphere Reserve sites. A biosphere reserve is an ecosystem with plants and animals of unusual scientific and natural interest. It is a label given by UNESCO to help protect the sites in the world.
Up to the present time, the vast majority of people living in the area practice a nomadic lifestyle.
The cultural diversity of the local communities, including the nomad communities are manifested by their languages, traditional production activities, herding, food products, dresses, festivals and dances.
