The doable season for this trip is from April to November. Sometimes in the high altitude the weather in not stable so the program might change according to local situation. As Nomads live in different locations and moving from one place to another in search of grasslands for their animals, visiting them depends on the season and the weather changes.
This tour is designed for who have limited time and interested to have a tough hiking in one of the most beafifull peaks in Iran in Zagros mountains. The mountain is located in northern Shiraz on the way to Esfahan city. So its suites for who would like to start from Shiraz and Finished it in Esfahan. Dena is not the name of the peak. It’s a name of mountain chain witharound 80 km and above this chain there is a trail on the ridge with a lot of peaks over 4000 m. On this hike we have a plan to ascent one of the most populare peak “ Hoszad Peak” with 4350 m height. According to the group fithness and the season and daylight we can ascent a couple of peak as well. The mountain chain also located inside of a National Park and there are a lot of wild animals and on the foothills of this mountain there are a lot of plant, trees and farm as well as villages. This area is noyt touristic area but its more interesting than many regions you may read on your guide book. Most trekking routes in Iran have been developed in Alborz Mountain range while Zagros is more rich in terms of untouched nature, landscape, a variety of plants, animals and special nomadic people.
Afternoon at 14:00 you will leave Shiraz towards Yasuj in the “ Dena Mountains Foothills” which is 190 km away. There are some nomadic spots in Zagros Mountains for their temporary stay and live. Overnight stay at guesthouse.
6.00 A.M wake up for breakfast to get ready to start at 7.00 A.M. Today we have chosen a couple of peaks to ascend.
After collecting our camps we will continue trekking to the base (3000m) to be picked up by our vehicle to drive towards a recently discovered cave. After visiting this cave, you will be transferred to Bus Station to take the bus to Esfahan.
Zagros is one of the longest mountain ranges in Asia (sixth) after the Himalaya, Kunlun Mountains, Tian Shan Mountains, Altay Mountains and Ural Mountains. Zagros forms the largest mountain range in Iran and Iraq, spreading across the whole length of the western and southwestern Iranian plateau, beginning in northwestern Iran and ending at Strait of Hormuz. Zagros range is about 932 miles (1,500 km) long and more than 150 miles (240 km) wide. The mountains are separated into many sub-ranges and organically have the same age as The Alps. Zagros is also home for rich and complex flora widely oak-dominated.
Dena is a protected area by the Iranian Department of Environment because of its vast range of plants, several endangered endemic mammals and natural resources. Oak species dominate the highlands, while pistachio and almond are common at lower elevations. Hackberry, walnut, and pear trees are scattered throughout this eco-region. A variety of animal life, such as brown bear, eagles, wolves, various wild cats including caracals, lynxes and leopards, wild goat have long made their homes in the region. On the other hand many large rivers, including Karun, Dez, and Karkheh originate from the area flowing into the Persian Gulf and the Oman Sea. Scenic waterfalls, pools, and lakes add beauty to the mountainous landscape.The central part of Dena (Dena National Park) was registered by UNESCO on their list of Biosphere Reserve sites. A biosphere reserve is an ecosystem with plants and animals of unusual scientific and natural interest. It is a label given by UNESCO to help protect the sites in the world. Until now the vast majority of people living in the area practice a nomadic lifestyle.The cultural diversity of the local communities, including the nomad communities are manifested by their languages, traditional production activities, herding, food products, dresses, festivals and dances.
